Thomas has obtained his undergraduate degree from University of Toronto in Political Science and Economics and a Law Degree from Queen’s University in 1992. He was called to the Bar in Ontario in 1994 and has been practicing law primarily in Personal Injury Law in Defence.

Thomas has a diverse range of trial, mediation/arbitration and courtroom experience. He has worked for over 20 years in the areas of personal injury defence. He has appeared before Superior Court of Justice , Court of Appeal/Divisional Court and Supreme Court of Canada for cases related to Personal Injury and other matters. Thomas has great ability to distill complex issues to their constituent core in an efficient manner. Effectiveness may require pursuing resolution outside of the courtroom and he is adept at finding common interests to conclude disputes through negotiation and in the mediation setting. He has completed the Successful Negotiation: Essential Strategies and Skills course from the University of Michigan and use these negotiation and mediation strategies in representing clients. Clients are well served by his precise and pragmatic approach.

At his time with Cassels Brock LLP as Partner and Flaherty McCarthy LLP, Thom worked on complex Personal Injury litigation matters obtaining successful trial and mediation results acting for the largest insurers in the province. During his time at Cassels Brock and Flaherty’s, Thom opposed some of the best plaintiffs’ lawyers in the province. He has always represented his clients with civility and decorum while obtaining exceptional results.

After working for many years in insurance defence, Thom decided to change career and work on the Plaintiff Personal Injury side. Understanding the defence approach offers him a unique and valuable insight into how to deal with insurers, adjusters and their counsel. He looks forward to representing accident victims with his defence experience. With defence experience he will be in a unique position to represent accident victims as a Plaintiff Lawyer.

Thom also has business experience outside of the law having worked as the Business Development Manager of a Reward and Recognition company managing multiple employee engagement initiatives. The company used a Software-as-a-Solution (SaaS) platform to provide rewards and recognition services to many corporations across several sectors. He was among the first in Canada to receive designation as a Certified Engagement Practioner. He utilizes the skills and experience from this field in handling all legal matters.

In addition to the experience in personal injury defence, Thomas has vast legal experience in complex Civil and Commercial matters.

Within the community, Thom contributes his time to the Oakville Hornets Girls Hockey Association, the Minor Oaks Hockey Association as coach, manager and referee and Oakville Little League in the same capacities. He volunteers with the March of Dimes, Canadian Cancer Society, the Arthritis Society and a local Food Bank. Thom has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the TDIY Colo/Rectal Cancer Foundation.

He is the father of three amazing and accomplished children. He is an avid golfer, home cook, and enjoys fishing and reading self-improvement books.
